Featuring PDK Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, the Porsche Double-Clutch Gearbox, the Cayman S proved all its strengths in the tests conducted by Motor Trend both on regular roads and the race track, making its way to the top against nine other thoroughbred sports cars. The test team including the two professional racing drivers Massimiliano œMax Angelelli and Randy Pobst took their decision on the title at the Laguna Seca Race Track in California, lauding in particular the surgical precision of the cars steering, Porsches mid-engine sports coupé thus scoring yet a further title in a most demanding contest. With its circulation of 1.1 million copies and 7.6 million readers, Motor Trend, an internationally renowned magazine, is acknowledged as one of the leading car journals in the USA. Auto Express, the British car journal, was equally unequivocal in emphasising that the Cayman dominates the sports car scene with unrelenting efficiency. A guarantee for the coveted title œBest Sports Car was also the ultimate blend of traction, balance, and agility. Apart from the characteristic sound of the boxer engines, the testers also lauded the practical qualities of the Cayman with its two luggage compartments and large tailgate. The second generation of the Cayman has been in the market since February of this year. Its newly developed six-cylinder boxer engines guarantee best grades in both fuel economy and performance, 320 horsepower delivered by the 3.4-litre power unit interacting with PDK in the Cayman S ensuring acceleration from 0 "100 km/h with the Sports Chrono Package in just 4.9 seconds, together with fuel consumption of 9.4 ltr/100 km (equal to 30.0 mpg imp). Delivering maximum output of 265 hp, the 2.9-litre power unit in the Cayman, again teaming up with PDK, consumes just 9.1 ltr/100 km (equal to 31.0 mpg imp) for even greater fuel efficiency. And it almost goes without saying that both models fulfil the strict EU5 emission standard in Europe and the ULEV standard in the USA. Contrary to other competitors in the œBest Driver's Car competition, the Cayman S also remains below the fuel consumption limit for Gas Guzzler Tax in the USA and is therefore exempted from the special tax imposed on cars with particularly high fuel consumption. |
