This Used DAIMLER DS420 car for sale For sale is this 1975 Daimler Limousine with coachwork by Vanden Plas. Imported from England in the early 1980's and used privately for 18 years, then as a popular Perth wedding car. Due to the operator's unwillingness to maintain a 4.2 the car was fitted with a 265 Hemi and Borg Warner 35. NO MODIFICATIONS WERE MADE TO THE BODY OF THE CAR, due to the compatibility of the Hemi's engine mounts. Certificate of approval from WA Transport. Despite our initial misgivings, the torquey characteristics of the engine make for a wonderfully able car, perhaps more relaxed to drive than the standard 4.2L. Hill climbing is a breeze, residents of Adelaide might have been surprised to see this DS420 doing 150km/h up the Southern Expressway hill (Southbound!). Reduced weight over the front subframe means the car handles more like a Series 1 XJ6 than a lumbering limousine. The body of this car is quite remarkable for an early DS, and is one of the best which we have seen in 2 years of hunting. We have just had the rear arches fully welded with new metal at significant cost, with a view to ensuring the car lasts forever. Only modification is a sunroof in the front cabin. Mechanically, the car is in very good condition with receipts available. Brakes and common age-related wear items have been attended to. The engine and transmission were rebuilt approximaty 30,000km ago. We have just had one of the fuel tanks opened and cleaned. Tyres are nearly new, AC was serviced several months ago, new rear mufflers... this car was inspected every 6 months in Perth for its hire car accreditation. We have removed the lovely, original interior pending replacement of the headlining and carpet (all pieces are labelled and retained), and have also stripped back the rear compartment wood. Interior may be restored at cost price prior to sale.
