Abt Polo Review

September 2005
Filed under: ABT Car News | ABT Headlines
For years Abt Sportsline is successfully offering sporty accessories for the Polo. The Volkswagen specialists have also created an extensive and above all extremely sporty tuning program for the latest model. The Abt Polo is now celebrating its world premiere at the IAA 2005 in Frankfurt.
Most obvious feature is Abt Sportsline’s distinctive aerodynamic package. The newly designed front grill and front spoiler give the Polo a dynamic and stylish look. The rear spoiler does not only make the Polo look sportier but also grants increased downforce on the rear axis. With this the Abt Polo takes after the Polo race cars from the VW Polo Cup.

The comparison with the motor sport version of the Polo is appropriate, as Abt has also developed a power upgrade for the model from Wolfsburg. The Bavarians have optimized the data of the motor management of the 1.4 TDI engine and have gained a power boost of 20 HP. Hence, beneath the sporty body shell of the Abt Polo the power of 100 HP and 230 Nm is waiting to be freed. The small power car races from zero to 100 km/h in just 12.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 182 km/h. These dates speak for themselves and leave no doubts. The Abt Polo is an absolute sporting ace and the dream-come-true of all teen Polo-owners, and is even covered by the Abt Sportsline guarantee, as Abt issues a guarantee of up to 100,000 km within the conditions and limitations of the standard manufacturer’s warranty on all power upgrades.

Beside the additional power, special sport suspension springs were developed for the Abt Polo as well. The springs lower the body of the small sprinter by 35 millimetres thus making the car look even more dynamical. However, more important than looks is improved driving dynamics. Handling is improved at the same time as well. Reduced side tilt can be noted especially in fast corners or sudden shifts in directions. The Abt Polo is quick as flash and safe without compromising comfort.

The 16 and 17 inch Abt light alloy wheels type Z will certainly contribute to the new Abt Polo’s success. The one-piece aluminium wheel featuring the typical convex five-spoke design lends the Polo a powerful sporting look.

Continuing the tailor-made Abt line for the new Polo, the interior features perfectly matching materials such as an aluminium pedal set, aluminium gearshift knob and exclusive floor mat set with Abt logo. Hence motor sport feeling is created in the cockpit as well.

Together with its increased power and attractive modifications, the new Abt Polo will certainly continue the story of success of the small Wolfsburg model. All in all, a dignified successor from Kempten.
