Thanks to its six speeds, this particularly compact and lightweight unit is notable for its high overall gear ratio, while at the same time being able to transmit good levels of torque. This leads to a combination of dynamic performance and a high level of comfort, producing an impressive driving experience. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62.5 mph) in 8.4 seconds, and a top speed of 226 km/h (141 mph) speak for themselves. Fuel consumption (overall, according to 1999/100 EG) is 9.1 litres for every 100 kilometres (31 mpg). As is usual in an Audi you can also change gear manually, using the tiptronic paddles, for a more sporty drive. This is even possible without taking your hands from the wheel, thanks to the gear change function integrated as standard into the leather sports steering wheel. The DSP dynamic gear change programme constantly analyses the way you are driving and continuously adjusts the gear change timing to suit it. In addition, the sports programme fitted as standard, which is selected by moving the gear lever to the “S” position, offers even more dynamic driving by delaying the gear changes. With its newly developed 6-speed automatic gearbox, the Audi TT, which has already won many awards, can now satisfy the high demands of drivers with sporting ambitions who do not want to forgo the convenience of automatic transmission. The basic price for the TT Coupé 1.8 T, delivering 180 bhp, is € 32,550, and it is € 35,030 for the TT Roadster. Along with 6-speed tiptronic transmission and a leather sports steering wheel with integrated gear change, this also includes automatic air-conditioning. Both the new TT versions will be available from the beginning of November. There are further new developments to report for the other members of the TT model series. When the model year changes in September 2002, all Audi TTs will be fitted with the driver information system as standard. A new range of wheels, additional fresh colours for the exterior and the interior trim, and the newly designed radiator grill with three striking diagonal bars are all further distinguishing features of the model year 2003. Another new addition to the equipment options will be a BOSE sound system with dynamic noise. |
