Delphi's Four-Zone HVAC System Offers Individualized Comfort On New Audi Q7 Luxury SUV Review

Separate Front and Rear HVAC Modules Allow Autonomous Climate Control

June 27, 2006 -- TROY, MICH. -- Audi's first luxury sport utility vehicle, the 2007 Q7, hits showrooms this year able to offer something most others in its class do not - a four-zone fully-automatic climate control system.

The unique system, designed and engineered by Delphi Corporation and Audi, and manufactured by Delphi, uses separate front and rear heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) modules with independent air controls for each zone.
The Audi Q7 is now available in both the United States and Europe.

"Comfort is a subjective feeling. Everyone reacts to cold, heat and air movement differently. The level of autonomy and comfort available with Delphi's four-zone HVAC module is highly desired in the marketplace," Marshall Andrews, business line executive, climate control and powertrain cooling systems, Delphi Thermal Systems, said. "Temperature, airflow, and air distribution can all be adjusted to help meet the comfort needs of each passenger in this prominent vehicle."

The four-zone system is optional content on the Audi Q7. For this vehicle, Delphi also manufactures HVAC modules with dual-zone automatic air conditioning control for both driver and passenger.

The HVAC systems come equipped with Delphi's powerful and lightweight heat exchangers and evaporators to accommodate the sophisticated requirements of the Audi Q7.

The Audi Q7 also features Delphi's Battery Disconnect Safety Device, an innovation designed to help mitigate short circuiting in collision events. The Battery Disconnect Safety Device, which debuted with the automaker on the 2005 Audi A6, is activated during a collision, utilizing a small pyrotechnic charge that quickly and safely disconnects protected circuits. This provides circuit protection for the cables connecting the battery to the vehicle's starter, alternator and electrical centers.
