Carlsson CD20 Review

March 2005
Filed under: CARLSSON Car News | CARLSSON Headlines
The second generation of the Mercedes-Benz A Class is significantly more elegant than its predecessor and is set to give Golf & Co. a fright. With modern styling and a host of technical improvements, the small Mercedes is an ideal candidate for the sporting and exclusive range of tuning components offered by Carlsson. The visual and technical customisation of the CD20 based on the A 200 CDI is to be seen for the first time at the Essen Motor Show 2004.

For a better performance

Thanks to the supplementary C-Tronic® Diesel POWER control unit developed by Carlsson, the power output of the CD20 rises from 140 to 166 bhp /122kW while torque climbs from 300 to 355 Nm. The control unit is quick and easy to fit and thus saves A Class drivers long waiting times so they can enjoy their car's greater responsiveness and powerful acceleration all the sooner. Moreover, Carlsson provides a three-year warranty and the satisfaction of excellent value for money (from € 1,130).

Sports springs developed by Carlsson provide better handling by lowering the car's centre of gravity by approx. 25 mm and ensuring excellent road holding with an acceptable level of ride comfort.

The result: the CD20 by Carlsson is significantly more agile than its series counterpart and proves that comfort and sports-car handling are not fully incompatible opposites.

Sporting elegance

The Carlsson aerodynamic kit for the A 200 CDI comprises an easy-to-fit front-spoiler lip, a striking rear wing and the new Carlsson rear skirt. All parts of this small 'package' represent the ideal basis for the A Class driver who wants to give the smallest model from the Mercedes-Benz range a more potent feel and look. The front spoiler lip and the rear wing, which is fitted to the tailgate, bring about a significant reduction in lift and thus improve driving dynamics of the Carlsson CD20. Tastefully customised by Carlsson, the rear of the car is a treat: the combination of Carlsson rear skirt, wing and sporty exhaust trims with two oval tailpipes give the CD20 a forceful and elegant appearance in the best Carlsson tradition.

Wheels from the 'Brilliant Edition' series

'Small but fine': wheels from Carlsson show that elegance and individuality are not dependent on the size of the car. New in the Carlsson range – and also available for the A Class – is the one-piece, '1/12' disk wheel with 12-hole design. This modern wheel, which is being shown for the first time at the Essen Motor Show 2004, complements the new Mercedes-Benz model perfectly (on show in Essen in the dimension 8 x 19'' with 225/35 ZR19 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx).

The one-piece, '1/16' 16-spoke wheel gives the Carlsson CD20 a touch of luxury and rounds off the appearance of the customised Carlsson in a dynamic and elegant way (on show in Essen in the dimension 8 x 18'' with 215/40 ZR18 Dunlop SP Sport 01).

Both styles belong to the 'Brilliant Edition' series, which is distinguished by an exclusive finish, which is unparalleled in the Mercedes-Benz tuning sector. The combination of a highly polished rim base and a brilliantly painted centre make Carlsson 'Brilliant Edition' wheels almost unrivalled.

Interior details for greater exclusiveness

Sometimes, small details that exude style and exclusiveness – to be seen at the Essen Motor Show 2004 – are all it takes. For the CD20, Carlsson presents pedal pads, aluminium door-lock pins with the Carlsson logo and the Carlsson sports leather steering wheel with Alcantara grips. On request, the CD20 can also be upholstered individually and completely in leather.
