Infiniti’s LDW System Wins ITS Award

PHOENIX, AZ, May 2, 2005 - A new product that can detect a car's accidental lane departure and warn its driver, a marketing program that increases E-ZPass utilization, and a system that provides real-time travel information and updates to commuters were among the top winners in the 2005 Best of ITS Awards.
The awards, announced today during the opening session of ITS America's 15th Annual Meeting and Exposition, recognize the organizations and agencies who demonstrate the most innovative and effective uses of advanced technologies in surface transportation.

"These award winners truly are the shining stars of our industry," said Neil Schuster, ITS America president and CEO. "Being able to honor these achievements that are so important to the industry is a highlight of the annual meeting."

Awards were presented in eight categories. The winner in the new product service or application category was Nissan North America for its lane departure warning system. Winning in the education and training category was the Consortium for ITS Training and Education (CITE) for its blended learning initiatives.

In the marketing and outreach category two awards were presented. Delaware DOT won for its E-ZPass Delaware campaign and TransCore for its Open Road Tolling program.

Two partnership deployment awards were given. The first award went to the Florida DOT and Mobility Technologies for their work on a program that supplies travel time information for the Tampa Bay area. Also winning in the partnership category was Texas DOT, Harris County and the City of Houston for their regional incident management system.

Utah DOT took home top honors in the public safety category for their computer-aided dispatch integration system. Caltrans and the PATH program at the University of California Berkeley won in the research program category for their transit-based smart parking management system. In the return on investment category, Maricopa County DOT took top honors for AZTech, an initiative designed to integrate existing ITS technologies in the region.

ITS Florida was the recipient of the outstanding state chapter award.
