Convertible’s pricing sets new standard for the segment

Oshawa, Ontario (Wednesday, January 25, 2006) – General Motors of Canada today announced pricing for the new 2006 Pontiac G6 retractable hardtop convertible, completing Pontiac’s exciting G6 vehicle lineup. The new G6 convertible will carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at just $34,995 for the GT model, making it the first power retractable hardtop available in Canada for under $35,000. The GTP performance version will start at $36,885.
“The G6 family continues its growth in 2006 with the addition of the new convertible, adding real excitement to the Pontiac vehicle roster,” said Janice Dickey, GM of Canada’s Marketing Manager for the G6. “The G6 convertible takes the Pontiac winning formula and adds the all-season versatility and security of a retractable hardtop, a feature never before available in this price range in Canada.”

In three separate U.S. surveys of new car owners, the G6 came out on top in its segment. Following up on its “Total Quality Award” for the G6, Strategic Vision’s latest survey gave G6 the highest “Customer Delight” score in the mid-size car segment, besting many top selling imports. A similar result was also reached by J.D. Power and Associates, which awarded the G6 their “Most Appealing Entry Mid-Size Car” honour in the 2005 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study.

The G6 convertible features a sophisticated all-weather retractable hardtop – the largest retractable hardtop on any four-passenger coupe – which takes just 30 seconds to open or close with the push of a button. The G6 convertible offers open-air driving, as well as the security and refinement of a coupe with uncompromising seating for four.

The GT convertible comes with a standard 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which is rated at 201 horsepower and 221lb.-ft. of torque. The GTP convertible features a standard 3.9L 227hp V-6 engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT). The G6 convertible shares the inherent attributes and strengths of the G6 Sedans, including four-wheel independent suspension, a driver-oriented interior and a host of refined details.
