The Solstice will be produced as a 2006 model year vehicle. "This demonstrates a commitment by GM to the UAW, our employees and the Wilmington, Delaware community," said Gary Cowger, GM President, North America. "The Wilmington plant will play an important role in GM?s effort to continue to bring exciting new products to the market." The Solstice was first unveiled as a concept car at the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It features smooth, uncluttered lines, a rounded front end, and an interior swathed in leather and free of any unnecessary accents or controls. "GM?s commitment to its UAW members at the Wilmington plant will provide job security for years to come," said Richard Shoemaker, UAW vice president and director of the GM Department. "The Solstice is an exciting new vehicle and the investment should enhance the economic stability for the Wilmington-area and the State of Delaware." |
