Online fan involvement to benefit NCAA schoolsDetroit - With the approach of the NCAA College Men's Basketball Tournament, Pontiac has introduced the first-ever fan-voted scholarship award program in the history of the NCAA Basketball. The Pontiac Game Changing Performance program will recognize that dramatic moment which occurs in almost every competition, that ends up changing the outcome of a game, and perhaps defining a season."The Pontiac Game Changing Performance scholarship award program will focus on plays that vividly show the most incredible, spine-tingling moments that exemplify the emotion and intensity of NCAA sports," said Dino Bernacchi, Pontiac Advertising Manager, "The connection to Pontiac as the performance division of GM is clear." This Game Changing Performance program is one of the components of the partnership between Pontiac, the National Collegiate Athletic Association CBS and ESPN and follows the similar, very successful effort that launched during the NCAA collegiate football season. After each of the first four rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, fans can vote for the Pontiac Game Changing Performance at NCAASports.com/Pontiac. Each school that has a play selected as a finalist will receive $5,000 for their general scholarship fund. Additionally, the play becomes eligible for inclusion in voting leading up to the Final Four to determine the Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the Tournament. This performance, selected in fan voting during the month of April, will result in a $100,000 general scholarship fund contribution from Pontiac to the winning NCAA institution. Pontiac will contribute nearly $150,000 to NCAA schools before the program concludes. "This initiative will ultimately benefit our member institutions and their efforts to provide programs and experiences for NCAA student-athletes," said Peter Davis, associate director of NCAA corporate alliances. "Pontiac has created a great scholarship program that shows its continued commitment to NCAA athletics." Pontiac will also give fans a showcase to enter their best tournament play-by-play recordings in a "You Make The Call" contest for a chance to win a Pontiac G6 Sedan, G6 Coupe, GTO or Grand Prix GXP and a trip to this year's championship game.
