Suzuki has leveraged its SUV expertise to create the Concept-X2 for the compact SUV segment. Sporty lines fuse with elements of stability and functionality to achieve a rugged yet refined vehicle that emphasizes owner sophistication while acknowledging the need for drivers to break free and seek out adventure. "I like to think that our passion and commitment to excellence have produced a compact SUV so exciting and fun that people will want to drive it wherever they go," said Koichi Suzuki, president of ASMC Automotive Operations. Working with the product concept of "off-road athlete," Suzuki engineers and designers developed the Concept-X2 the same way athletes train for all conditions - refining capabilities and enhancing cross-country performance. Concept-X2 is the second sport-utility concept from Suzuki this year. In January, the company unveiled the Concept-X midsize SUV at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Intended to put a fresh perspective on the midsize SUV segment, Concept-X fuses cutting-edge features with unprecedented interior, exterior, safety and performance features. Year-to-date, American Suzuki posted a 17 percent increase in sales compared to the same period last year, marking thirteen consecutive months of rising sales, including three months of best-ever sales in 2004. Evidence of Suzuki's growth is further illustrated by a recent R.L. Polk report showing that Suzuki vehicle registrations increased 47.8 percent in 2004 over 2003, the largest percentage increase of all manufacturers selling vehicles in the United States. In the last two years, Suzuki has launched four new production models as part of its 357 Plan to triple sales to 200,000 vehicles by 2007: the premium compact Forenza sedan, midsize Verona sedan, five-door Reno and versatile Forenza Wagon. With six cars and two SUVs, ASMC's 2005 model line offers buyers a class-leading level of features and amenities at a value.
