2008 Vauxhall Astravan Sportive SE Review

Two hot new additions are joining the Vauxhall LCV line-up, bringing new levels of stylish design and driver appeal to the commercial vehicle market. With high-performance, fuel-efficient diesel engines and sports-themed styling features, the Astravan Sportive SE and Corsavan Sportive join the line-up by popular demand, after first being exhibited in concept form at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC, Birmingham.

The newcomers are the latest in a long-line of load-loving, road-loving vans – a niche which Vauxhall successfully carved out for itself in 2001 with the introduction of the original Astravan Sportive.

Priced at only £14,780 ex VAT, the flagship Astravan Sportive SE comes with 17-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, a full body styling pack, front fog lamps and a rear roof spoiler, making it the ideal choice for small business users who want a van that projects a powerful image of their company, as well as those who love driving.

Powered by a 1.9-litre 150PS common-rail diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the Sportive SE enjoys performance to match that of Vauxhall’s more sporting car models, while the cabin is designed to offer the best in long-distance driver comfort, with sculpted, ergonomically designed sports seats. To complete the performance theme, the Sportive SE rides on lowered sports suspension, designed to deliver optimum stability in all conditions as well as enhance the van’s appearance.

Also joining the Vauxhall LCV line up is a Sportive variant of the popular New Corsavan, launched earlier this year. Powered by a 90PS derivative of GM’s incredibly fuel-efficient 1.3-litre CDTi engine, the Corsavan Sportive comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.

The already attractive body gets further enhancements in the form of a styling pack, which includes body-coloured side mouldings, front fog lights, a sports exhaust tailpipe and smart 15-inch alloy wheels. Other features over and above the standard Corsavan specification include heated, body-coloured door mirrors, sports instruments, air conditioning, electric windows and sports seats. New Corsavan Sportive is priced at £9,870 ex VAT.
