Vauxhalls advanced range of green technology engines has picked up a coveted award from leading fleet title Fleet World.

The accolade was granted to Vauxhall for its commitment in providing fleets with the choice of a range of environmentally friendly options " the ecoFLEX vehicles, which include the Vauxhall Insignia " 2009 European Car of the Year.

Fleet World editor Ken Rogers commented: With its ecoFLEX range, Vauxhall has committed to reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in cars with conventional internal combustion engines: It achieves this through clever technological and aerodynamic innovation. The aim is, quite simply, to make highly efficient vehicles available at affordable prices.

The Astra ecoFLEX, for example, directly addresses the needs of fleet buyers in a very high-volume sector. Its 1.7 litre turbo-diesel engine produces CO2 emissions of just 119g/km and delivers fuel consumption of 62.8mpg on the combined cycle. This means it falls into the lowest BIK tax band for fleet drivers and costs only £35 per year in Vehicle Excise Duty. The ecoFLEX variants of Corsa and Insignia offer equally impressive efficiency in their respective market segments.

Commenting on the award, Chairman of Judges George Emmerson said: Fleet Managers want to offer drivers a wide and attractive range of cars, but they must also ensure that whole-life costs are competitive and emissions are as low as possible. Vauxhalls ecoFLEX range ticks all these boxes and more.

Maurice Howkins, Director of GM UK Fleet said: We are very proud to accept this award for what we believe is an exceptional range of vehicles, its great to see that the success of the models has been recognised.

ecoFLEX models can now be found in Agila, Corsa, Astra and Zafira ranges, with the Insignia being the latest to join the line-up. Their combined CO2 emissions range from 105g/km to 137g/km and mean that Vauxhall now boasts a total of 366 model variants with less CO2 emissions than 160g/km.

The Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers, service companies and individuals who have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved the highest possible level of excellence in their sector. The judging panel is chaired by industry professional, George Emmerson, who has managed fleets at IBM, NHBC and Black Horse Agencies. Members of the judging panel include Ken Rogers, John Kendall, and Ross Durkin from Fleet Worlds editorial team, and fleet manager Jackie Pomfrett.
