Hyundai Tucson FCEV Will Tour Southern California in Three-Day Road Rally Event

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor Company's Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) is once again joining the California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP) Road Rally from October 4 - October 8. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the CaFCP Road Rally event, which will tour from Orange County to San Diego to showcase the latest in fuel cell vehicles. During the tour, there will be multiple opportunities for the public to learn about the technology powering these environmentally conscious cars, as well as the opportunity to drive them.

This is the Hyundai Tucson's second year participating in the Road Rally after its debut in 2005. The Tucson is Hyundai's second-generation fuel cell vehicle, building on the success of the first-generation Santa Fe FCEV. Advances over the Santa Fe FCEV include a higher output fuel cell and the ability to start in freezing temperatures -- a major breakthrough for fuel cell vehicles.

Beyond the CaFCP Road Rally, the Hyundai Tucson FCEV has been tested extensively over the past two years at the Hyundai America Technical Center in Chino, Calif. By putting the Tucson through its paces, Hyundai engineers continually improve the power and performance of the FCEV, further enhancing its commercial viability.

Hyundai Motor Company became the sixth automotive member of the California Fuel Cell Partnership in June 2000. The CaFCP is a public-private venture of automakers, energy and fuel cell technology companies, and government agencies working together to advance the commercialization of fuel cell-powered vehicles. The partnership is headquartered in West Sacramento, Calif. and over the next few years, will enable more than 60 fuel cell vehicles to undergo road testing in real-world driving conditions. Since joining the partnership, Hyundai Motor Company has been an active participant in the effort to commercialize alternative-energy, environmentally friendly vehicles and has helped to set the standard for fuel cell vehicles.

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company in Korea. It is responsible for the technical development of automobiles in North America, including governmental certification issues. Its headquarters are located in Ann Arbor, Mich., with two branch offices in the Los Angeles area.
