All-New Tucson Praised for Outstanding Quality in Its First Year

Fountain Valley, Calif., June 7, 2005 - Hyundai improved its position in the 2005 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study with the third best non-luxury brand ranking in the industry - up from fourth in 2004. Significantly, Hyundai's all-new compact SUV, the 2005 Tucson, scored impressively in its first year of production, winning praise from J.D. Power as the highest quality all-new model launched in the industry in 2005.
"Hyundai has shown impressive quality gains, and this year is no exception," stated the 2005 Initial Quality Study report issued by J.D. Power and Associates. "The Tucson earns an impressive score of 99 problems per 100 in its debut year. A launch vehicle with a score that outpaces the segment is a true testament to the strides Hyundai is making to be a world-class, top-quality competitor."

The Tucson includes a segment-leading set of standard safety equipment and a spacious, well-configured interior that provides lots of room and comfort for the driver, passengers and all their cargo. Tucson was the first SUV to offer six standard airbags, and standard Electronic Stability Control, for under $20,000.

Hyundai's commitment to quality was recognized in last year's J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study when the Sonata sedan topped the Entry Mid-Size Car category in initial quality in 2004.

"We're proud of the progress we continue to make, delivering some of the highest quality levels in the auto industry, " said Bob Cosmai, Hyundai's President and CEO. "Tucson's impressive quality debut shows that we know how to deliver world-class quality in an all-new model. That's important for us as we have six more all-new models coming before the end of next year."

Hyundai Motor America, headquartered in Fountain Valley, Calif. is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea.
