“Supporting the 2009 World Aerobatic Championships is going to be an ultimate expression of Mazda’s brand DNA, demonstrating our determination to do things differently,” enthuses Mark Cameron, Mazda UK Marketing Director. “Silverstone will provide the perfect venue and the flying, with ultra-light, ultra-responsive, aircraft, is sure to be fast, precise and very colourful. “The partnership with WAC is the perfect fit for Mazda. It complements the sporty driving experience in all our cars, from the Mazda2 supermini to the new Mazda RX‑8 R3 four-door, four-seater sports coupe. We are proud to be one of ‘Britain’s favourite sportscar brands’, thanks to the popularity of the iconic Mazda MX-5 and the RX-8.” The Championships will bring together 60 of the world’s best pilots, from 15 countries, for a two week-long battle in high-powered, super-agile 250mph, 10G monoplanes. By Saturday, a ‘Classic’ World Champion will be decided, and then the WAC will culminate in the Top 20 pilots final to decide who takes away the ‘Freestyle’ title. On Sunday it is hoped that the ‘WAC Airshow’ will feature alongside the British Touring Car Championship race for a dramatic and spectacular finale to the event. Welcoming the partnership with Mazda, Alan Cassidy, Chairman of the British Aerobatics Association, commented, “Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom ethos and its focus on injecting some sports car driving fun into its whole range of cars, ties in well with the high-technology, flying fun and visual drama that characterises aerobatic competition at its highest levels. We look forward to working with Mazda to make the 2009 World Aerobatic Championships a feast of fine flying and truly spectacular event.” |
