Nissan Europe Reports May Sales

TRAPPES, France, June 7/PRNewswire/ -- Nissan Europe reported total sales of 47,672 vehicles (1) in May 2005, an increase of 0.7% over the same month last year.

In the five month period from January to May 2005, Nissan Europe sold 229,632 units, 1.3% down from last year.
Highlights By Country

- Nissan in France sold 4,417 units in May, registering an 11.9% increase compared to last year. In the five month period from January to May 2005, Nissan sold 20,311 units in France, up by 1.9% compared to last year.

- In Germany, Nissan sold 5,266 units in May, representing a decrease of 7.3% compared to last year. In the five month period from January to May 2005, Nissan sold 21,914 units in Germany, 4.9% down from last year.

- In Italy, Nissan sold 3,259 units in May, down 56.6% against last year. In the five month period from January to May 2005, Nissan sales in Italy fell to 26,047 units, down by 28.6% compared to last year.

- In Russia, Nissan sold 4,790 units in May, up 96.2% against last year. In the five month period from January to May 2005, Nissan sales in Russia rose to 14,465 units, up by 105.5% compared to last year.

- Nissan in Spain sold 6,864 units in May, up 13.7% compared to last year. In the five month period from January to May 2005, Nissan sales in Spain rose to 29,512 units up by 9.4% compared to last year.

- In the UK, Nissan sold 8,631 units, an increase of 20.1% compared to last year. In the five month period from January to May 2005, Nissan's sales in the UK reached 44,664 units, up 0.5% compared to last year.

Model Highlights

- The Micra sold 13,678 units in May representing a decrease of 9% against the same month last year. In the five month period from January to May 2005, total Micra sales reached 69,046 units, down 7.5% compared to last year.

- X-TRAIL sales decreased by 18.7% in May against the same month last year to 4,731 units. In the five month period from January to May 2005, total X-TRAIL sales reached 25,781 units, down by 4.3% compared to last year.

- Pickup sales decreased by 18.1% in May against the same month last year to 3,077 units. In the five month period from January to May 2005, total Pickup sales reached 15,296 units, down 14.5% compared to last year

Nissan employs around 12,000 people in its European design, research and development, manufacturing, logistics, and sales and marketing operations. Last year, the company produced a total of 448,513 vehicles in its Spanish and British plants and sold 543,948 vehicles in Europe. Nissan Europe's Head Office is based in Trappes (Paris), France.
