4 Millionth Vehicle produced at NMUK

Sunderland -- Nissan introduced on June 15th the new line-up of Micra models to the European press at its plant in Sunderland where the Micra is produced. Colin Dodge, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, unveiled the three new models: the new Micra, the sporty Micra 160SR and the production version of the coupe- cabriolet - Micra C+C. The introduction of these three new models will bring more choice to the customer and shows Nissan's ongoing commitment to its plant in the north-east of England, following the recent announcements of production of two all-new models for 2006 and 2007.
The presentation of the new Micra range coincided with the roll-out of the 4 millionth car produced in Sunderland - a Micra 1.4 Tekna. 'The 4 millionth vehicle produced is a major milestone and has been achieved thanks to all the hard work and dedication of our staff, our suppliers and the continued support of the North East community.Esaid Dodge.

To mark the occasion, and in keeping with Nissan's involvement with the community, Nissan donated the 4-millionth vehicle to charity, the NSPCC - National Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

Nissan also presented a sneak preview of the production version of the Micra C+C. This new model which represents an investment of €146 million covering design, development and manufacturing, completes the Micra line-up. For the first time in its history, NMUK (Nissan Motor Manufacturing, UK) has joined forces with a key supplier, working together within the plant facilities. Karmann is known the world-over for being the leading designer and manufacturer of folding roofs in the automotive industry. Total output of the Micra C+C is expected to reach 20,000 units per annum.

Last year, the company produced a total of 448,513 vehicles in its Spanish and British plants and sold 543,948 vehicles in Europe. Nissan Europe's Head Office is based in Trappes (Paris), France.
