The Renault Group sold 2,248,756 vehicles under the Renault brand (down 2.6%), 119,027 vehicles under the Renault Samsung Motors nameplate (up 40%) and 164,406 Dacia-branded vehicles (up 70.7%). The Nissan Group sold 3,448,637 vehicles under the Nissan brand (up 9.2%) while sales of Infiniti-branded cars increased to 149,111 units sold (up 7.4%). Cooperation and synergies continued within the Alliance in 2005, with both Renault and Nissan launching products on common platforms and using common components. Each company launched new models based on the common Alliance B platform - the Clio III from Renault and the Note, Wingroad, and Bluebird Sylphy models by Nissan. Nissan also launched its Serena model on the common Alliance C platform, which it shares with Renault’s Mégane family, the top selling car range in Western Europe for a third consecutive year. Another example of successful cooperation within the Renault-Nissan Alliance in 2005 is the common development of a third engine, the 2.0-liter M9R (M1D) diesel engine, following the 1.5-liter HR15DE (S2G) and the 2.0-liter MR20DE (M1G) gasoline engines launched in 2004. The new co-developed 2.0-liter M9R (M1D) diesel engine was added to the Renault Laguna range in July 2005 and to the Mégane II range from January 2006. The engine will also be applied to other Renault model ranges during 2006 and to Nissan models. Source: Nissan |
