“Pure Passion” is the message behind the Opel models with the OPC logo, both in their design and driving dynamics. Five of these high-performance variants are currently available, with more to follow.

Taken from current models, the OPC vehicles are visually enhanced through an accented design language with typical layout and equipment elements. Other distinctive features include front spoilers with prominent air inlets and fog lamps, large alloy wheels in exclusive design, bold molded side sills, blue brake calipers, and – depending on the model – rear bumper aprons and spoiler. The interiors boast high-quality details such as Recaro sports seats with fabric/leather upholstery, leather steering wheel, leather gearshift knob, and instruments in the unique OPC design.

The youngest member of the OPC family, and the first sporty model in the minivan segment, is the Meriva OPC. The car’s extraordinary spirit is clearly expressed by its 132 kW/180 hp, 1.6-liter engine, the most powerful turbocharged engine in its displacement class, which accelerates the Meriva from zero to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, and delivers a top speed of 222 km/h. To ensure optimum control of this considerable power, the Meriva and all other OPC models come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard.

With the Astra OPC, Opel advances far into the territory of established sports cars. The coupé-like three-door model is powered by a 177 kW/240 hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that accelerates it from zero to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, and produces a top speed of 244 km/h.

The compact sports car is not only a purebred, it is also furnished with high-tech equipment: thanks to electronic control, its suspension automatically adapts to the prevailing road conditions and individual driving style. And it features a sports mode, which the driver can activate at the touch of a button for considerably more responsive handling.

The Zafira OPC is not just the fastest production minivan in the world, it also represents an unrivalled blend of driving dynamics and versatility. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with maximum output of 177 kW/240 hp, the same as in the Astra OPC, which accelerates the sports van from zero to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, and to a top speed of 231 km/h. The chassis engineering in the Zafira OPC is principally the same as that in the Astra OPC.

With the Vectra OPC in the five-door hatchback version and the Vectra station wagon OPC, Opel offers two cars in the sporty segment of the mid-size class. Not only are they the top of the line models in the Opel program, they also rank among the most powerful front-wheel drive cars available. High-tech features in the 2.8-liter, 188 kW/255 hp, V6 turbo engine such as variable valve timing, twin-scroll turbocharger, and piston head oil-spray cooling ensure driving performance on the highest level. The hatchback and station wagon require 6.7 and 6.9 seconds respectively to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h, while their top speeds are 260 km/h (hatchback) and 254 km/h (station wagon).

While OPC stands for Opel Performance Center, car enthusiasts know OPC is more than just an acronym – it is a distinction! OPC showcases just how much sporty potential and technological expertise are in Opel cars. With the range of performance vehicles carrying these three letters, Opel demonstrates its strategy to develop products which evoke emotion and set standards in driving dynamics. The OPC versions are top of the-line variants in their model range. Currently there are five exciting High performance models available, with more to follow.

Opel Meriva OPC: Newcomer in OPC quintet

The newest addition to the OPC family is the multi-variable five-seat Meriva OPC. With a 180 turbo hp engine and top speed of over 220 km/h, it is the first sporty model in the minivan segment. Thanks to its superior driving performance, it fits perfectly into the sporty, exclusive OPC family. The highlight of the Opel Meriva OPC is its engine, the most powerful production unit in this displacement class. It reaches a maximum speed of 222 km/h and accelerates from zero to 100 in only 8.2 seconds. This level of performance is delivered by the completely newly-developed 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo ECOTEC engine with 132 kW/180 hp, which together with the standard six-speed manual gearbox and sport chassis forms the basis for the minivan’s exciting drive.

The sports chassis is designed to offer especially agile self-steering properties and is set lower in the front and rear than other Meriva models, ensuring safe and consistent handling. The Meriva OPC’s top performance is enhanced by 17-inch wheels with 205/45 R 17 tires. Power steering gives the sporty minivan precise response, while large brakes ensure powerful deceleration.
Meriva OPC standard equipment includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution. Passive safety features include a stable, torsionally rigid passenger cell with computer-calculated deformation zones, doors reinforced with steel tubes, six airbags including head curtain airbags, active head restraints in front, mountings for the ISOFIX child’s seat system, and Opel’s patented Pedal Release System (PRS). Opel has enhanced the Meriva in model year 2006 with a number of high-tech options that increase safety, including halogen cornering and curve headlamps, unique in this class.

The Meriva OPC’s stylish looks, its distinctive face with characteristic OPC honeycomb grille with color-keyed wide chrome crossbar, aerodynamically-optimized roof spoiler, and rear apron all reflect its role as the sporty top variant in the model line. The 17-inch alloy wheels in OPC design with six Y-spokes, blue brake calipers and trapezoidal tailpipe are also model trademarks. The Meriva OPC interior boasts Recaro sport seats in front with fabric/leather upholstery as standard, a leather-trimmed OPC sports steering wheel and gear shift knob, as well as chrome-ringed instruments with special dials. Like all other Meriva variants, the OPC model features the unique FlexSpace concept. The compact leisure and family sports van can quickly and easily be transformed from a five into a spacious four, three, two or one-seater with generous luggage space, without cumbersome removal of the seats.

Opel Astra OPC: Compact sports car

With the Astra OPC, Opel advances far into the territory of established sports cars. The coupé-like three-door model is powered by a 177 kW/240 hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that accelerates it from zero to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 244 km/h. Fuel consumption of 9.2 liters per 100 kilometers underlines the remarkable efficiency of this engine, which is coupled to a sporty six-speed manual transmission.

The Astra OPC’s striking looks clearly identify it as not only the top model in its line, but also as one of the most powerful front-wheel drive production cars in the world. The body design, with its front spoiler pulled down low, central air intake and large 18-inch wheels in characteristic OPC six-spoke design (tires 225/40 R 18), showcase the car’s dynamic potential as much as the rear, with its centrally located trapezoidal tailpipe.

The high-quality, driver-oriented interior, Recaro sport seats, sports instruments in OPC design and aluminum pedals all contribute to the high-class sporty atmosphere.

The attribute “high-tech” also applies to the sporty set-up of the Astra OPC’s chassis. This features IDSPlus (Interactive Driving System) as standard, with electronic networking and coordination of all driving dynamics systems, including the Electronic Stability Program ESPPlus, Traction Control TCPlus , and various functions of the 17-inch high performance brake system. A major element in this network is the electronic CDC (Continuous Damping Control) that ensures the damping characteristics are automatically and continuously adapted to prevailing road conditions, vehicle movements, and individual driving style. Additionally, the driver can select an even sportier setting by pushing the “SportSwitch”.

Given its dynamic potential, the Astra OPC not only underwent bench tests in the International Technical Development Center (ITDC) laboratory in Rüsselsheim, but also a comprehensive real life test program, including tuning drives and endurance runs on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and at the Opel Test Center in Dudenhofen. One of the members of the test crew was Manuel Reuter, Opel’s most experienced works driver with two Le Mans wins and more than 200 DTM races, whose vast experience contributed to the set-up of the sporty, high-performance cars.

Opel Zafira OPC: Sports van with extraordinary driving dynamics

The Opel Zafira OPC is not just one of the fastest production minivans in the world, it also represents an unrivalled blend of sports van driving dynamics and best-in-class versatility. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with maximum output of 177 kW/240 hp, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The engine accelerates the front-wheel drive sports van from zero to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, and to a top speed of 231 km/h.

The Zafira OPC’s sporty potential is expressed in its design: a deep front spoiler with central engine cooling air-intake and fog lamps in distinctively styled housings, 18 inch wheels in exclusive OPC design with 225/40 R 18 tires, accentuated side sills as well as a striking rear with twin exhaust system and trapezoidal tailpipes.

In the interior, top-quality Recaro sports seats, a leather-covered sports steering wheel and a gear lever knob, aluminum pedals as well as sports instruments and door sills in characteristic OPC design emphasize the vehicle’s exclusivity. The seven-seater combines this ambience with exemplary spaciousness and the unbeatable advantages of the patented Flex7 seating system, which enables it to be effortlessly transformed within seconds into a six-, five-, four-, three-, or two-seater, without cumbersome removal or storage of the seats.

Like the engine, the Zafira OPC’s chassis tuning adds to the sporty character and ensures high active safety reserves. These are further enhanced by the high-performance brake system and newest-generation IDSPlus2 as standard. This system networks and coordinates all driver assistance systems such as the Electronic Stability Program (ESPPlus), Traction Control (TCPlus), various brake functions and electronic Continuous Damping Control (CDC). The result: excellent handling and further improved suspension comfort. For even sportier handling, the driver can select the “SportSwitch” mode with a firmer chassis set up.

Opel Vectra OPC and Vectra Station Wagon OPC: OPC family leaders

With the Vectra OPC in the five-door hatchback version and the Vectra station wagon OPC, Opel offers two cars in the sporty, mid-size class segment. Not only are they the top of the line models in the Opel program, they also rank among the most powerful front-wheel drive cars available. Both Vectra high-performance models made their debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show 2005 (IAA), with their market launch following in November 2005.

Both are powered by a newly-developed V6 high-tech engine with 2.8-liter displacement and have a six-speed manual transmission. Thanks to twin-scroll turbocharging and variable valve timing, the engine develops a maximum output of 188 kW/255 hp, rivaling the driving performance of a sports car. The hatchback and station wagon require 6.7 and 6.9 seconds respectively to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h, while their top speeds are 260 km/h (hatchback) and 254 km/h (station wagon).

The Opel Vectra OPC versions combine the further developed design language of the updated model line with OPC-specific design characteristics, creating an emotionally charged, dynamic appearance. The expressive front is dominated by a deep front spoiler and fog lamps in spotlight design. The profile highlights are large 18-inch alloy wheels in exclusive OPC six-spoke design (235/40 R 18 tires) and more accentuated door sills. The rear of both cars is characterized by prominent bumpers with diffuser-like contours, discreet spoiler lips and twin exhaust systems with trapezoidal tailpipes.

In addition to the side sills in OPC design, the exclusive OPC Recaro sports seats, ergonomic three-spoke leather sports steering wheel and sports gear lever, uniquely designed sports instruments, special colors and a speedometer scale up to 300 km/h all make for a sporty ambience in the passenger compartment.

In terms of sporty driving characteristics and high active safety, both Vectra OPC models feature newest-generation Interactive Driving System, IDSPlus2. All electronic driving dynamics systems - Electronic Stability Program (ESPPlus), Traction Control (TCPlus), Understeer Control Logic (UCL), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), various brake functions and electronic Continuous Damping Control (CDC) - are networked and coordinated in a highly efficient system. For even sportier handling, the driver can select a firmer and more direct chassis set-up with the SportSwitch. A high-performance brake system offers deceleration rates rivaling those of a sports car.

In addition to exciting design, top-class technology and outstanding driving performance, the Vectra high-performance models also offer comprehensive function and comfort equipment, as well as extensive safety features, including six airbags, active head restraints in front, a Pedal Release System (PRS), and mountings for an ISOFIX child’s seat.
