A Renault eco² vehicle meets three criteria: it has CO2 emissions under 140 g/km or runs on biofuel, it is manufactured at an ISO 14001-certified site, it is 95% recoverable at end of life and contains at least 5% recycled plastic (of total plastic mass). An environmental commitment Renault is taking yet another step forward with the launch of Renault eco² signature, by publicly announcing its commitment to environmental and economical vehicles. Environmental because results can be measured throughout the vehicle’s life cycle, Economical because the vehicles consume very little fuel but also because they bring customers affordable technology that in some cases offers tax advantages. CO2 emissions To obtain the Renault eco² signature, the vehicle has to emit less than 140 g/km of CO2 over a combined cycle or run on biofuels. - Less than 140 grams = less than 5.3 l/100 km for diesels and 5.9 l/100 km for petrol units, - Biofuels reduce CO2 emissions over a “Well to wheel” cycle, by 20% for B30 and as much as 70% for E85, depending on the vegetable source. Emitting less CO2 also means consuming less fuel. By choosing a Renault vehicle with an eco2 signature, you are choosing an environmental and economical vehicle. Manufacturing To obtain the Renault eco² signature, the vehicle has to have been made on an ISO 14001-certified site (bodywork-assembly). This certification confirms the progress made by a site in reducing water and energy consumption, visual and noise pollution, and atmospheric and liquid waste. This recognition of the quality of an environmental management system by an independent certification body is proof of the ambition to improve every day and reduce the impact of activity on the natural world. In 10 years, Renault has reduced its: - dangerous waste by 65% - water consumption by 57% - volatile organic compounds by 38% - energy consumption by 25% In 2006: - 39 ISO 14001-certified sites worldwide. - Renault was awarded the "Environmental Management for Sustainable Development" prize by the French ministry of the environment and sustainable development as part of the "2006 Enterprise and Environment" awards. Recycled plastic To obtain the Renault eco² signature, at least 5% of the vehicle’s plastic content has to be made of plastic recycled from end-of-life products. This value represents the content of recycled plastic used in components stipulated by the ISO 14 021 standard. This percentage varies from between 5% and 13% for Renault models A Renault eco² vehicle is designed so that 95% of its mass can be recycled at end of life. 95% recyclable means that: 95% of its mass can be re-used ("a new life"): - 10% can provide energy (cement production, heating, etc.) - 85% for recycling matter, re-use… Renault eco2 vehicles are eco-designed so that they can be 95% recycled by weight during end-of-life processing. |
