This small 1.4-litre turbocharged 130hp engine, which drives through a six-speed manual gearbox, sees Renault continue its policy of making its downsizing technology as widely available as possible. It boasts the power output of a 1.8 (130hp/96kW) and delivers the torque of a 2.0 (190Nm), yet returns combined cycle fuel consumption of 6.5 litres/100km.

Reliability has been enhanced by the fitment of a timing chain, while oil- and oil filter-change intervals have been extended to every 30,000km (or two years). The air filter and sparkplugs need replacing every 60,000km (or four years) and the accessory drive-belt every 150,000km (or six years).

New Mégane Hatchback and New Mégane Coupé can also be ordered with a new, significantly modifiedversion of the two-litre dCi block. Almost 80 of its 300 components are new.

This engine comes in either dCi 150 (mated to six-speed automatic transmission, 110kW at 4,000rpm) or dCi 160 (six-speed manual gearbox, 118kW at 3,750rpm) form. Peak torque of 360Nm or 380Nm for the dCi 150 and dCi 160 engines respectively is available from 2,000rpm, and both accelerate swiftly and smoothly up to 5,000rpm.

New Mégane 1.6 16V 110 has been renamed New Mégane 1.6 16V 110 Bioethanol E85 eco². For the same price, this version can run on either 95-octane unleaded petrol or E85 ethanol biofuel. It also qualifies for a certain number of tax incentives, including free or reduced-price registration in certain French regions, while the price of fuel per litre is approximately 'š¬0.85 cheaper than that of 95-octane unleaded petrol.

The brand new integrated Carminat TomTom® navigation system ('š¬490) has also been introduced alongside the high-end Carminat Bluetooth® DVD system. Easy to use and ready to run as soon as the car starts, Carminat TomTom® features all the functions expected of a satnav system, including precise, detailed maps, a large 5.8-inch screen, traffic information with suggested alternative itineraries, speed restrictions, points of interest, fix speed camera alerts (depending on country) and a wide range of customization opportunities. Its SD card enables easy updating or customization of navigation data used by the Carminat TomTom® system thanks to a bespoke website (http://www.renault-multimedia.com).

Last but not least, Privilège equipment level buyers can now choose between the existing beige or new dark charcoal trims. Also at this level of range, in addition to the Beige Leather Pack, it is now possible to specify the Dark Leather Pack ('š¬1,200) which was previously only available for Dynamique versions.
