Company Also Will Provide Door Panels, Instrument Cluster, Cargo-Storage System and Overhead System for the Vehicle

PLYMOUTH, Mich., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson Controls (NYSE:JCI) announced today that it has been selected by General Motors to supply the seating system and other interior components for the 2007 Saturn Outlook. This includes the innovative "Smart Slide" second-row seat feature. The all-new vehicle was unveiled last week at the New York Auto Show.
Johnson Controls collaborated with General Motors to develop the innovative "Smart Slide" seating feature that enables quick, easy movement of the second-row seats to provide access to the third row of the vehicle. According to General Motors, this feature will be standard on all second-row configurations for the Saturn Outlook.

Through an array of pivot points, the second-row seat cushion flips up, while the seat back slides forward toward the front seats. The "Smart Slide" feature works independently on a 60/40 split bench seat, as well as captain's chairs. Engineers have refined this system to achieve the lowest possible effort for easy, one-handed operation.

An additional benefit of "Smart Slide" is four inches of fore-aft travel for the second-row, which can help accommodate long-legged passengers seated in either the second or third row, or for increased storage space.

"Johnson Controls is pleased to be providing seat systems, other interior components, as well as electronics to the all-new Saturn Outlook," said Brian Kesseler, group vice president and general manager, North America for Johnson Controls. "The innovative seats will allow passengers to easily get into and out of third-row seating areas."

In addition to providing seat systems, Johnson Controls will supply overhead systems, door panels, instrument clusters and cargo-storage systems for this vehicle.

The door panels will be manufactured using Johnson Controls' CrafTec Partial Mold Behind (PMB) manufacturing process. PMB utilizes a single-step, advanced injection-molding process that integrates cover materials, reducing the time and cost needed to create interior panels.

The overhead system contains the headliner, sun visors, and overhead console which features Johnson Controls' HomeLink(R) Wireless Control System. The patented HomeLink system can be used to remotely operate garage doors, estate gates, rear and front door locks, home security and lighting systems, and other convenience and safety devices.
