31 Jan 2007 -- "We are very proud to be the only car manufacturer on the list of finalists" says Steven Armstrong Chief Operating Officer at Volvo Car Corporation. "To us it is very important that we find a balance betweeen innovation and efficiency to ensure the future sustainability of our company within the car industry. For this reason it is particularly exciting to be part of this short list and to gain recognition for our long-term work within the area of Corporate Social Responsibility. I would also like to use this opportunity to congratulate the winner HP Corporation EMEA and hope to be able to exchange knowledge with them and with other companies in Europe within this field".

Volvo Cars' heritage shows deep involvement in corporate social responsibility evidenced by our three core values, safety, quality and environment. Since 2000 Volvo Cars has been publishing an annual Sustainability report highlighting the company's responsibility as a car manufacturer, as a global company and as a local player.
The European Business Awards is a completely independent programme designed to recognise and celebrate business excellence across the 25 territories of the EU. The programme is supported by forward-thinking organisations that have a desire to recognise best practice, innovative business processes, and overall business success across the region. This year 10 finalists have been chosen within each of six categories, of which Volvo Cars was nominated for the AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability.

The judges of the Corporate Social Responsibility award looked for evidence of a clearly expressed and widely communicated corporate sustainability strategy with a main focus on actions launched to manage risk prevention from a commercial, environmental, governance and social development perspective above and beyond the requirements set by legislation.

These were the ten finalists:

HP Corporation EMEA (winner)
Volvo Car Corporation
ABN AMRO
Akzo Nobel NV
Conergy AG
