With only one week to go until the 2008 Goodwood Revival (19-21 September) gets underway, Goodwood has lined up what is believed to be the most expensive grid of historic racing cars ever to appear together in one race. Cars confirmed to be competing in the one-hour, two-driver Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race at the Goodwood Revival have been independently valued by automotive auction experts at Bonhams at a staggering £85million. The one-hour, two-driver Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race for closed-cockpit GT cars in the spirit of the RAC TT races that took place at Goodwood between 1960 and 1964.
The TT remains the jewel in the Revival’s crown. Nowhere else in the world will you see such a spectacular grid of super-rare GT cars racing in anger, driven by great aces past and present. The grid will once again feature a breathtaking array of internationally-renowned historic cars.
Revival race goers will see Jaguar E-type Lightweight; Ferrari 250 GT SWB, GTO and 330 LMB; AC Cobra and two original Shelby American Cobra Daytonas; Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato and Project 214; plus thundering Chevrolet Corvettes. Racing wheel-to-wheel. Drivers confirmed to be taking part include Derek Bell, Martin Brundle, Patrick Tambay, Jean-Marc Gounon, Christian Horner, Richard Attwood and Jackie Oliver.
Commenting on the value of the cars racing in this year’s Revival TT, James Knight, Bonhams International Head of Motor Cars says, “my at a glance grid value arrived at circa £85m for the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration. I think we can safely say this is the most valuable grid of racing cars ever assembled for any historic race anywhere. Some great drivers – old an new – have been lined up to complement the motor cars and, bearing in mind they tend not to hold back, it really does promise to be a memorable race. Let battle commence.”
