The Toyota MR2 has been redesigned and reintroduced this past year. It's the first MR2 since the last generation vehicle which was very popular but out of reach for some buyers. The latest version has undergone major exterior changes in essence making it a new vehicle. The present generation like the last has the engine behind the driver. The new powerplant however enjoys VVT-i (Variable valve technology with intelligence) technology thus producing a better power spectrum across the board. The engine is rated as a 138 bhp with a 1.8 liter displacement. Four wheel ABS is also standard.
The MR2 has a very peppy yet strong acceleration characteristics. Its light weight structure makes this possible. With the 6 speed manual trasmission, the MR2 adds loads of driving enjoyment. The four wheel ABS brakes bring the MR2 to a stop quickly and competently. The leather wrapped sport shifter is nice to feal as is the leather wrapped steering wheel. Ergonomically all gauges and switches are placed in easy to reach positions. Interior quality materials are first class and have a rich feel to them. Toyota has added many standard features on the MR2 such as a rear glass window with defroster on the Spyder.

The MR2 has little competition in its class. The Honda Prelude offers a nice package of features but lacks the flare of the MR2 as well as the open sky driving enjoyment. On the other hand, the Ford Mustang has much more horsepower punch but lacks refinement the MR2 enjoys. The only real competition the MR2 has is its sibbling the Celica. By the looks of it, Toyota has all the bases covered.
