The record comes, too, well before the showroom debut of SEAT’s stunning new supermini, the all-new Ibiza, which arrives here in the summer. March’s outstanding numbers are accounted for by strong performances across the SEAT range, with three- and five-door versions of the existing, and obviously still popular, Ibiza contributing no fewer than 2,868 registrations. Next in the Iberian hit parade came the sporty, svelte five-door Leon family hatch – SEAT’s best-selling model in 2007 – with 2,452 sales. The capable and capacious Altea family, comprising Altea, Altea XL and Altea Freetrack 4, added upwards of 1,200 to the record total with the ever-reliable Alhambra seven-seat MPV chipping in to the tune of almost 250. And the Brand is looking for further good news in the months ahead as its ultra-green Ibiza Ecomotive and forthcoming Leon Ecomotive models arrive to add to the growing tally of sales. The Ibiza Ecomotive – revised London Congestion Charge- and Road Tax-exempt courtesy of its miniscule 99 g/km of CO2 emissions – will be joined later in the summer by a similarly frugal low emissions Leon, producing just 119 g/km of CO2. Both cars are obviously fuel sippers, with the ‘green’ Ibiza offering up to 88.3 mpg and the Leon capable of returning fully 76.3 mpg on the extra urban cycle. Peter Wyhinny, Director of SEAT UK, said of the strong sales performance: ‘Coming so soon after our previous record month, and with the new Ibiza five-door still a while away from its showroom debut, I’m particularly pleased by these March figures. ‘Our continued strategy of offering fine-driving, value-for-money cars, backed by a dedication to quality and customer service at every step, is clearly an attractive proposition for more and more car buyers. ‘With a raft of new products, including of course the stunning new Ibiza, just around the corner I know our dealers will be gearing up for an even more frenetic time ahead.’ |
