Martorell, 26-02-2007 -- Erich Schmitt, Member of the Board of AUDI AG with responsibility for the SEAT division, resigned as Board Member with effect from Friday 23rd February. During its regular meeting last Friday, the Supervisory Board of AUDI AG thanked Schmitt for almost 15 years of work at Audi.
The termination of Schmitt’s Board Member Agreement is a consequence of the dissolution of the brand groups within the Volkswagen Group. As the President of SEAT S.A., Schmitt will in the future report directly to the Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG and remains a member of the Board of Management. Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the AUDI AG Supervisory Board, noted, “Erich Schmitt has not only done a great service to Audi as the Board Member responsible for Purchasing. He has also made a critical contribution to driving forward the set-up and development of Audi’s activities in China. On behalf of Audi and the entire Volkswagen Group, I would like to thank him for his hard work for the company. As the President of SEAT S.A., he will continue to focus all his energies on restructuring the brand.â€
Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the AUDI AG Board of Management, commented, “If we now refer to China as Audi’s second home market, then Erich Schmitt deserves our praise for this. The entire Board thanks Mr Schmitt for his dedication to the brand, his achievements in procurement and the Chinese market and his work for the SEAT brand.â€
Erich Schmitt joined AUDI AG in April 1992 as Head of Purchasing of Production Materials. In November 1992 he was appointed Board Member with responsibility for Purchasing. In addition, Schmitt was responsible for Audi’s activities in China since 1993. In the years 1992 to 1997, he was furthermore in charge of the Finance and Organisation division of AUDI AG. Schmitt was Member of the AUDI AG Board of Management for the SEAT division since 1 October 2006.
