Martorell, 01-03-2007 -- The SEAT management presented to the Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero the company’s plans for the future during his visit to the SEAT headquarters in Martorell.

SEAT President Erich Schmitt and management also welcomed the Catalan Generalitat President José Montilla and the Minister of Industry Joan Clos, along with several local authorities and trade union leaders at a ceremony to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone of the New Design Building.
During the Prime Minister’s first visit to the company headquarters in Catalonia, Erich Schmitt put forward his strategy for the coming years which includes the New Design Building. This centre, in which 4.5 million euros will be invested, will be the only integral automobile design centre in Spain and will have capacity for over hundred highly qualified engineers, designers and modellers. The new centre will be built in Martorell within the same compound where SEAT is concentrating the facilities belonging to its various divisions, making it easier to provide design services to the entire Volkswagen Group.

SEAT’s President commented his plans to Zapatero concerning new model development, his aims for internationalising the brand and the company’s sales objectives. He also explained that SEAT is planning to carry out a series of investment deals in Spain that amount to nearly five billion euros.

For Erich Schmitt‚ ’’the visit to the SEAT facilities in Martorell by such distinguished authorities, headed by the Spanish Prime Minister, is a great honour and demonstrates the Government’s support of our upcoming plans. The New Design Building is one of the first major investments we are committed to make to ensure the future of Spain’s only car manufacturer.“

SEAT is a Spanish company within the German Volkswagen Group. Its Technical Center provides the company with the unique position among all car manufacturers established in Spain in being the only brand with the capacity to design, develop and produce its own vehicles.
