• Sales have gone up by 11.7%
• The launch of the Škoda Roomster was a success
• The position as Central Europe's leader has been reinforced
• The company has grown in key West European markets
• Production figures have gone up by 12.5%

1/15/2007 -- Having sold altogether 549,667 Škoda Fabia, Škoda Octavia, Škoda Roomster and Škoda Superb vehicles in over 90 countries in 2006, Škoda Auto has achieved record-breaking results. Compared with 2005, the sales have grown by 11.7%. “The growth of Škoda Auto's sales was greater than that of the entire market. The company has reinforced its position as a major player in European markets and managed to take advantage of the increasing growth potential in Asia,” said Škoda Auto BOD Chairman Detlef Wittig about the result.

After years of the Fabia's dominance, the best selling model line was the Škoda Octavia. The company sold 270,274 Octavia vehicles in 2006 (233,322 in 2005), 243,982 Fabias (236.698 in 2005) and 20,989 Superbs (22.091 in 2005). Altogether 14,422 customers bought the Roomster, a brand new model line that was launched in June and was an immediate success – in reaction to the excellent market acceptance, the car manufacturer set up a third production shift two months earlier than planned.
With 301,343 vehicles in total, Škoda has increased its sales by 9.1% in Western Europe. The most successful markets are now Germany, Great Britain, Spain and Austria – the car manufacturer has increased its market shares substantially and set new sales records. Altogether 118,527 vehicles have been registered in Germany (market share 3.4%), 38,801 vehicles were in Great Britain (market share growth +1.3%), 24,869 vehicles in Spain (market share growth +14.6%) and 16,943 vehicles in Austria (market share growth +3.9%).

The company has also defended its market leading position in the Czech Republic. New registrations include 37,388 Fabias, 21,233 Octavias, 2,406 Roomsters and 1,835 Superbs. In the last quarter of the year, three of Škoda Auto's models were the Czech Republic's three best-selling vehicles (1. Fabia, 2. Octavia, 3. Roomster). The result shows clearly that the launch of the Roomster is a success and that this new model line has settled well in the Czech market.

With 146,612 vehicles sold in Central and Eastern Europe (Czech Republic not included), Škoda Auto has grown also in this part of the world (+ 21.6%). The company has defended its market leading position in Poland with a 12.04% share. Besides the Czech Republic and Poland, Škoda is the market leader in Slovakia, Bulgaria, in Lithuania and Bosnia/Herzegovina. Very successful markets are Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. Russia, the Ukraine and Kazakhstan (thanks to a local assembly plant opened in late 2005) are growing dynamically, too.

Škoda Auto sold 36,541 vehicles in the Asia and Pacific region in 2006 (+21.1%), the largest markets being India (12,105 vehicles), Turkey (5,725 vehicles), Egypt (3,683 vehicles) and Israel (3,518 vehicles).

The company has also set new production records. Škoda Auto produced altogether 556,443 vehicles in its manufacturing plants in the Czech Republic in 2006, 12.5% more than in 2005. The Mladá Boleslav plant produced 240,919 Octavia and Fabia vehicles, Vrchlabí 96,853 Octavia and Octavia Tour vehicles, Kvasiny 45,447 Roomster and Superb vehicles. “We have achieved this result by increasing our productivity of work in all aspects,” said Martin Jahn, BOD member responsible for HR.

“The great demand for Škoda vehicles in 2006 is an impulse for 2007. We are planning to produce 580,000 vehicles and launch a licence production of Škoda vehicles in China,” adds Detlef Wittig.
