5/11/2006 -- Assembling Škoda vehicles since 2002, Eurocar assembly plant in Solomonovo, Ukraine is starting a new era. Having extended its site with a brand new MKD shop, the company is going to increase its production by thousands of Škoda vehicles a year.

The Solomonovo plant has been assembling vehicles in the SKD format so far. Now it is launching MKD, i.e., the assembly sets are made up of a large number of components. In contrast with SKD, the body delivered to the Ukraine is not geared – all the parts are delivered separately.

A brand new state-of-the-art assembly shop was built on Eurocar's site for the MKD assembly. The size of the site has been enlarged by 17,000 square meters of assembly areas and 8,000 meters of logistical areas. The total production capacity is 45,000 vehicles a year now. The Solomonovo plant assembles the complete range of Škoda models: the Octavia of both the first and the second generations, the Fabia and the Superb. The plant also assembles VW and Audi vehicles.

The official opening of the new assembly shop was attended by the Škoda Auto BOD Member for Manufacturing and Logistics Horst Mühl, Škoda Auto Logistics Manager Jiří Cee and Quality Control Manager Frank Schreier. The Ukrainian side was represented by Eurocar Supervisory Board Chairman O.P. Bojarin and Plant Director A.M. Jagičev

“We managed to open the new assembly shop in just thirteen months, thanks to perfect cooperation between Škoda Auto and Eurocar. The result of our joint efforts is that the Škoda brand has significantly strengthened its position in the local market,” said Horst Mühl, Škoda Auto BOD Member for Manufacturing and Logistics.

The Ukraine is one of the key markets in terms of Škoda Auto's development strategy. While the Solomonovo plant assembled 9,788 Škoda vehicles last year, the launch of MKD is expected to increase this year's volume to as many as 16,000 Škoda vehicles. In 2002 the company started with just 1,990 vehicles.
