2003 Skoda Superb This prestigious prize was handed over by the editor of the magazine Overdrive, the most important motoring magazine in India. The Škoda Superb was followed by the models Hyundai Getz, Elantra, and Ford Vision. The magazine Overdrive rated the Škoda Superb as the “best car available to the Indians at present”. In India, too, Škoda Auto also captured the “Automotive Technology of the Year 2005” award for advanced five-valve technology used on Škoda Octavia RS petrol turbocharged engines and on the Škoda Superb 1.8T model. The Škoda brand entered the Indian market in 2000 when it made its first appearance at the “Auto Expo 2000” motor show in New Delhi. Shortly thereafter the company Škoda Auto India was established as a 100% subsidiary company of Škoda Auto, which launched production of Škoda cars in a plant located in the town of Aurangabad in the west-central Maharashtra state, western India, in the second half of 2000. In India, 4,656 cars were sold in 2003 and 7,202 units in 2004, which represents a 55% increase compared to the previous year. This year, Škoda Auto plans to manufacture and deliver to its Indian customers approximately 10,000 Octavia and Superb models. |
